My truth. My life.

Its time

Why do I jump when you say jump?

Why do I cower when you raise your voice?

You are my puppeteer and I am your slave.

It shouldnt be this way.

We should be equal in our existence.

You are my husband yet you have become my oppressor.

I do not owe you anything.

You do not deserve the righteousness that you demand.

Why do you order my respect, when you have not worked for it.

It is time for me to rise.

I will fight, I will conquer.

I will become my own puppet master.

I urge people to join in, comment with your paragraph of fiction to accompany the image. It doesn’t have to follow my story or reflect the same themes. It can be a poem or in a different language (provide a translation please :) ). Anyone who wants to join in, is welcome. This photograph will be reblogged under Ermisenda on tumblr and added to the Picture it & Write gallery on Facebook and Pinterest.

  1. Hear, hear….. I agree with those sentiments…!

  2. I love the twist from slave to puppet master. A great contrast and smooth transition. Thanks for contributing this week to Picture it & write!

  5. wonderful poem; wonderful message about equality

  6. I love poetry that empowers women. Thank you.

  7. I know I’m weird, but this is the first piece that made me want to embrace my role as the puppet. I think it was the way you instilled rebellion before I got to the words “It shouldnt be this way.” I read the whole rest of it looking for a man who could justify those things. Thankfully, you didn’t offer one!
